Jim is a licensed contractor with 30 years of experience in the field of residential reconstruction. Before founding Seagate Inspections, Inc. in early 1992, he was a partner in a local general contracting firm that specialized in the repair of homes that had been heavily damaged by fire, water, windstorm, and other insurance related calamities. This experience generated a vast knowledge in troubleshooting house and building problems and the unique characteristics of vintage wiring, plumbing, heating, and structure. Jim also dealt with a considerable amount of roof leak troubleshooting, flashing repairs, and other leakage problems around the envelope of buildings. Before practicing as a licensed contractor, Jim worked in the field as a carpenter; rough and finish, for a period of five years.
Jim attended and graduated from the Professional Home Inspector’s Institute and completed field training prior to starting Seagate Inspections, Inc., back in early 1992. Jim has been a Certified Member of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) since 1993, having passed all levels of testing for membership and regularly exceeds the continuing education requirements each year to maintain current membership status (ASHI Certified Member #093739). Jim is a certified Carbon Monoxide Analyst, a Certified Residential Mold Inspector (CRMI #12792), a Certified EIFS Moisture Intrusion Specialist (AWCI), Quality Assurance Observer (Roofing, RCI), and a Certified Level II Infrared Thermographer.
Jim is also a member of the Home Builders Association of Greater Toledo, the Better Business Bureau, and the Toledo Board of Realtors. He has sat on the Education Committee, Code Liaison Committee, and the Grievance and Ethics Committee at the HBA and is a staff Arbitrator for construction disputes for the BBB.
Since starting the company in 1992, Jim has performed over 4,000 inspections on various types of properties (residential and commercial). Today, Jim oversees the various functions of Seagate Inspections, Inc and is the primary developer of the various training seminars taught by the company. In addition to these functions he performs as an expert in specialty inspection work involving troubleshooting of construction problems, inspection and consultation for litigation, overseeing construction projects, and dispute resolution between homeowners and contractors.
